Amsterdam

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWell what a kick in the teeth to the start of our holiday! We were at the Jakarta’s international airport nice and early to catch our flight to Amsterdam with a layover in Kuala Lumpur before heading to our destination of Amsterdam flying with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Only to find out that when we checked in that we had been kicked off not only that flight but that plane and shoved onto Singapore Airlines. I thought to myself its fine, Singapore Airlines are a pretty good airline. At check in they inform us we are now stopping in Singapore and our layover is now and hour longer, then to top it off when we boarded the plane we notice that we weren’t even sitting with each other, thankfully each flight people where happy to swap seats so we were able to sit together.

Arriving in Amsterdam about 7.30am we caught a cab to out hostel St Christopher’s Inns, not thinking about it really and it cost about 60 Euro (about $88 Aussie). We found out that the train only costs about 16 Euro (about $23 Aussie) for 3 people and it was within walking distance from the train station to the hostel.

When it came to the accommodation side of things thankfully I did the same thing in Jakarta and booked the bed’s for the night before so when we arrived we could just go straight to our room, put away our bags and take 5 minutes for our selves!  Other wise we would be waiting until 2pm for check in.

We walked into our room about 8.30am, it was still pitch black out side as the sun doesn’t come up until about 9.15pm and there were people sleeping so we just dropped the bags off, grabbed some jackets, beanies and scarfs and we head out. It was about 6 degrees that day so we needed them.

We decided to just go walk about and have a look around, the city really is breath taking, I haven’t really seen anything like it. While we were walking around we came across THE ART OF BANKSY, the tickets were about 18 Euro each (about $26 Aussie). I had seen so much of his work on social media, tv and read a few things about him so I really wanted to see his show, I have to say it really is worth the money and time. He is a very talented man that touches on so many issues that the world is really struggling with.

After walking through the Red Light District Amsterdam I wanted to know about the history of it all, why it started, why it was still around. Someone told us about this museum that showed you the history of Red Light District Amsterdam it was called the Red Light Secrets costing about 8 Euro each (about $12 Aussie). Im not sure if you are able to take photos in there, I was to busy reading and looking at everything.

After walking around for a few more hours it was time for dinner, then the Water Colour Cruise  costing about 22 Euro each (about $32 Aussie). This show only runs from December through to January so it felt special that we got to see it, as it was so dark I was unable to take any photos. The only piece of advise I would give is really rug up! we were all freezing by the end of it, it was about 3 degrees! But in saying that it is totally worthing doing. You get to see some amazing work by local artistes. You also get warm blankets and yummy coffee to enjoy while floating around looking at this amazing art.

I have to say this was a good way to end the day.
